For years, swimsuit competitions had always been a part of beauty pageants. Contestants are to be judged by the way they carry themselves as they strut down the runway in their sexy bikinis.
However, Miss America has decided to say ‘bye bye’ to bikinis and enter a new era. The Miss America Organization officially announced the said plan on their official IG account.
Gretchen Carson, the chair of the board of trustees for Miss America Organization, announced that they will no longer judge candidates on their outward appearance. She declared that they will no longer be a pageant but a competition.
The swimsuit competition will be replaced by an “interactive session” with the judges. This will allow the contestants to speak about their chosen advocacy and impress the judges with their communication skills.
The change will be implemented on the upcoming Miss America 2018 this September.
